objectives.

Our Approach to ESG
ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL AND GOVERNANCE
Approach
The approach is active, research-focused, and committed to a long-term culture, incorporating RepRisk’s independent ESG risk analysis and Glass Lewis governance and stewardship.
APPLICATION
The approach involves assessing management and sustainable growth, continuously monitoring ESG information and ratings, and actively voting on all GBI holdings.
OUTCOME
The approach aims to make better portfolio management decisions, support the sustainability of performance, and is backed by the official Morningstar Sustainability Rating.
Our investment philosophy is focused on sustainable growth. Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factor analysis has therefore always been ingrained in our research approach and position monitoring process. ESG issues form a key assessment of the quality and culture of management of the businesses we consider and the investment team believe that companies not actively addressing their ESG risks are less likely to generate future sustainable growth. Therefore, ESG factors are included in the 15 tests we apply to consider the overall quality of a business.
We subscribe to independent data providers such as RepRisk for critical information that is used to support decision making and to conduct on-going real-time monitoring of our holdings for environmental and social
controversies. We also use independent research from Glass Lewis to assess our companies’ governance quality and to support our voting decisions. We actively vote on all holdings and disclose full details of our voting
actions.
The Fund has been awarded ‘Low Carbon’ status by Morningstar and we monitor the greenhouse gas emissions of the Fund’s holdings over time. Businesses held within the Fund are also monitored for their commitment to the Paris Climate Agreement and other global ESG objectives and accords.
